A new word for this extended bank holiday break..?

Because, apparently, they have one in Italy. There, to take a few days off work between public holidays is to do 'il ponte' (the bridge).

It seems this doesn't happen quite often enough in the UK for us to have a word for it. Perhaps we should, though? What would it be? We could adopt the Italian. It sounds rather nice. Or use the translated Italian (which somehow sounds rather less attractive). Or come up with something completely different.

Any ideas..?
